  3. Vespa Capital Has Realised Its Investment In Cognite

Vespa Capital has realised its investment in Cognite, a specialist healthcare strategy and communications agency, through a sale to Blue Matter, a leading strategic consulting firm serving the life sciences industry.

Cognite is focused on creating powerful and effective medical communications for life science clients who discover and develop transformative therapies for highly complex diseases. Cognite supports pharmaceutical and biotech companies to ‘bring science to life’ through senior-led healthcare strategy, medical affairs, creative/scientific messaging, digital and omnichannel campaigns, commercialisation, training, and patient engagement.

The business is led by an experienced group of industry professionals, with teams in the UK, Switzerland and North America. Through their combination of deep scientific and creative expertise, Cognite distils and conveys complex medical information to difficult to reach patient and HCP stakeholders.

Under Vespa Capital’s partnership Cognite effectively expanded both its geographic presence through the establishment of a USA entity, as well as its service offering, by investing in the high growth area of medical affairs. Cognite sharply outperformed the broader medcomms market by virtue of a science-first approach and expertise across speciality rare and orphan therapeutic areas.

The Cognite realisation is Vespa Capital’s third successful exit from Vespa Capital Fund III in as many months.

Lee Hurley, Chief Executive Officer of Cognite, said: “The past four years, working with David Forbes, Rob Sowood and the team at Vespa Capital have been a tremendously enjoyable and rewarding period for all of us at Cognite.

As a private equity partner, the Vespa Capital team have delivered what was promised when we started on this part of our journey with them; helping us to professionalise and scale, being supportive, considerate and adding expert knowledge when needed, in a highly collaborative manner”.

David Forbes, Partner at Vespa Capital, said: “It has been a pleasure to partner with Lee Hurley and Sean Cush and to support the development of Cognite since 2022. Working closely together we have diversified Cognite’s service offering, expanded the business geographically and continued to invest in high-quality talent.

Cognite has a reputation for exceptional quality and customer service, and this has been maintained during a period of significant growth for the company with the team tripling in size during our partnership.

In Blue Matter, I believe that Cognite has found the perfect partner with whom to continue its market-leading growth.”

Vespa Capital and the selling shareholders were advised by Rothschild & Co, DLA Piper and BDO.
